Free Ice Cream Shortages

Sorry for the frequent radio silences lately. As you can probably guess, we are busy, and we’re getting ready to head out of town and frantically running around to meet all obligations prior to doing so.

This will ease up after next weekend, but not completely, because as my life did not contain a bunch of other stuff I’ll also be drastically upping my time devoted to Moving About, so unless you particularly want to hear a whole bunch about powerlifting, roller skating, and conditioning, I’ll have less time to gin up content.

    *raises hand*

Doubt I’ve got a ton to tell you unless you really wanna hear about the roller skating. Our demonic athletic director is running a workout challenge, and as the strength part I’ve elected to start 5/3/1. Conditioning she and Stingray can run, as he’s recently taken over offskates conditioning practice codas.

Though there HAS been a whole ton of Mobility WOD, skating, and us in the background.

Looking forward to seeing y’all in a couple of days :-)

5/3/1 plus conditioning plus roller skating plus MWOD plus your biochem background… actually I’d be really interested in hearing about your plans for managing recovery. I’m about five weeks into a three-month Big But Boring cycle, just bumped the assistance work up to 60% of my training max, and I could use some better ideas for keeping on top of training stress than just foam roll and EAT MOAR.

  5. LabRat Says:

Yeah, recovery is a very serious concern for me. I’ve been very selective in which of the MWODs I do rather than just marching through them; if anything the theme of the month has been getting to know my own pelvic girdle. (With quite a bit of success, actually. I’ve gone from desk-frozen hips to being able to casually grab an ankle and yoink it out at a flat 90 degree angle to my body- or further.)

Depending on what Bampf! has in mind I may need to cut the assistance work to a minimum, though the experimental programmer in me is going “But but lunges! Step ups! WE NEED LEGS OF ADAMANTIUM”

I think food is going to be the big challenge. I’m already going through rough adjustment from paleoish + workouts that are always short and intense to the gradual realization that I need more carbs, and more calories, or I’m not going to be able to keep this up. I’ve never in my life been in a position where I needed to nudge myself to eat more.

  6. Kristopher Says:

Yup … once you start seriously working, you guzzle carbs … when I was doing trail crew for the forest service, we went through astounding amounts of pancake batter in the mornings, and still lost weight.

I’m interested in reading about it too.

I want to start getting in shape, but I don’t even know where to start. And I’ve got all sorts of joint / myofascial / mobility issues.

You’re way ahead of me. I just want to *be* in shape, without all of this “getting in shape” nonsense that people are always going on about. My current theory is that I was in really good shape when I was little, so I’ve been doing a lot of whining and making family members drive me around, and occasionally getting beaten up by the bigger kids. I’m also trying to get the office closed for the summer. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Before I dash out the door, which I will as soon as I finish this coffee, I would like to award Squid 1 internet.

Email me, maybe we can hash something out.

Perlhaqr, you and me both! Swimming appeals, but is currently ruled out (cervical spinal fusion in process, ick) as are any contact sports, or even any team sports. Walking at anything above 2mph is too much bounce for my spine. Walking at 2mph is slower than a three year old in the toy aisle. DRIVES ME NUTS! No aerobics or dance either. Cycling REALLY doesn’t do it for me, and falling off could seriously screw up my neck. The LACK of motion is really beginning to bother me! Anyone have any other suggestions?
