*zzzzzzz*

After spending all weekend skating, going through offskates “extra happy fun bonus time” workout, going through various contortionist routines in order to unfuck my hips (nothing will reveal the inadequacy of your hips like skates), and having ridiculous allergy attacks (nothing will make your hayfever ridiculous like really deep breathing in a picturesque outdoor skating rink), I am completely out of energy. Even attempting to review Avengers sounds like way too much work. Killing internet dragons borders on way too much work.

Back after I’ve slept another eighteen hours or so.

Where is the outdoor skating rink in Los Alamos? I’m new here.

Hey, LR-when you wake up…I found this awesome book today. It’s a comic/graphic novel about Richard Feynman! Do you guys know about it? The drawings are wonderful, and the authors drew from unpublished materials of his in the CALtech archives and his autobiographies.
I’ve read Surely You’re Joking Mr. Feynman in College and then again a couple of years ago and loved it both times. I didn’t understand everything but really loved it. I’m only good at understanding science from the NOVA/PBS/Science on TV things for kind of perspective, but I’ve been gluing my nose to those since I was in kindergarten. So for me this comic was hilarious and fascinating and a wonderful reminder of why I’m fascinated by science. And, maybe if I can re-read it enough times, I’ll get the theories and methods he explains in the storyboards, like QED.
They really included the human element too-so this is NOT like one of those godawful humorless souless ‘if we put history in a comic book form people’l READ it but we can’t make it too funny” things it has been my misfortune to come across from time to time.
So in full recognition of how it may be Old Hat to you folks at the ranch, but somehow I was sure I had to tell you about it.

    Good sleep!

Martin- the Los Alamos County ice rink is down off West road, in the canyon. Turn at the traffic light at the hospital. It’s hard to miss.

It’ll be closed starting about the first week of June, though.

It’s the shins, for me. Maybe I just can’t go long enough to get to the hips, but 10 minutes in skates and my shins wanna jump out of my lower legs and strangle me.

It’s not that they hurt, it’s that they’re a heap of frozen rubble after years and years of general deskboundness. Undoing all the various muscle and connective tissue limitations is gonna take awhile.

Sorry to hear that LR, hope you get a good long nap in! And I ‘have’ resembled that cat a few times… sigh

  8. perlhaqr Says:

Oh, yeah. Ok, I am familiar with that problem. :-/

perlhaqr: I’ve had occasional problems with my shins before, not just from skating but even from walking. Eventually I realized what was triggering the problem: I was leaning too far forward, either in an attempt not to fall on my butt while skating, or in an attempt to force my legs to catch up and walk faster. Once I stopped doing it, the shin pain mostly went away. Try it, maybe it’ll work for you too.
