Kaboom

Ten minutes ago out of pretty much nowhere lightning struck close enough to rattle the windows and make me jump out of my chair.

Tank: Leaped up from his nap, barked, hackled, went charging through the house looking for the responsible party. Finding none, trudged crankily back to his nap spot and went back to sleep.

Kang: Perked her ears briefly. Went back to sleep. It’s only thunder, you hysterics.

Kodos: is still pacing around the office peering outside and then returning to breathe nervously on me. He’s upset because Kang is sleeping behind me and thus he can’t tuck himself in and breathe nervously there.

Same breed, same breeder, same upbringing… I’d like to change the settings on one of them if that could be arranged.

Now THAT is funny… and people say dogs have no personality… sigh…

  2. Squid Says:

Is it a software thing, or do you need to open ‘em up and switch a jumper?

  3. Kristopher Says:

You’ll need more DPS for that, Squid.

  4. Laura Kellner Says:

D’you suppose it’s just that Tank is still a puppy and Kang, having HAD puppies is now jaded to petty things like weather? Maybe Kodos should have to have puppies…but maybe I am also anthropomorphisizing (and spelling it wrong)…

I think it’s just innate temperament differences. Kang has not cared about loud noises in pretty much ever; we brought her home two days before the Fourth of July and she thought the fireworks were pretty, not scary. (But mostly boring.) Tank was startled because we’ve had very little rain/thunder since he was born and nothing like that had ever happened to him before, but he recovers very quickly from stress.

Kodos doesn’t like thunder. Or fireworks. Or construction equipment noisily tearing stuff up. Etc.

If I could tell him I know somebody who feels the same way…well, that’d probably not go over well-seeing as she weighs all of 8.5 pounds and is a middle aged lady cat

  7. Ruth Says:

Hah! I laughed, talk about temperment differences!

Apollo doesn’t like DISTANT thunder, I think he can’t identify it quite right. But once the storm gets over head he pretty much says “OH! Never mind” and goes back to what he was doing.
