….We don’t really have one under our roof quite yet though. Kang is going through a steep learning curve on motherhood, which has not been helped by yesterday’s stress. Everyone here is pretty frazzled and sleep-deprived. Regular content will resume when we have something like a normal schedule again, as well as the ability to concentrate.

Congrats.

See? They don’t look anything like me.

AW!!!
Big doggie smile. I love it. Congrats!

They are lovely pups. You’ll all get more rest soon.

I like the Twin snoozing in her armpit. Good choice, tiny puppy. Optimal akita fuzz it is.

Alan: As you can see, the pups are pasty white. You can see she’s not, and the alleged father sure as hell is not.

Are Akita’s one of the breeds that grows into its coloring? I don’t recall ever seeing pictures of new pups before.
She looks good despite the trauma!

I’ve been roaring with laughter, educated and very moved by your website for the week I have known about it now. Congratulations on the lovely babies!

Congrats on the giant grubs!

Hi puppies!

Having just the two will make it easier when she decides that she wants to switch den sites.
August 25th, 2011 at 8:41 am
Ruth: Sort of. The usual rule is that they lighten as they grow, not darken, though; these two are cream and will stay that way. Their faces will fill in with more hair so they’re not so pink and that’s about.
Chas: we are already having pointed arguments on that very subject. Kang may feel camping in front of the back screen door is the most pleasant place to raise her brood, but that is a major traffic zone and we can’t have that.
Laura: Thank you!

Poor Kang looks exhausted!
But the babies are lovely.
Congrats

What a wonderful happy, tired - contented - smile.
Best wishes to all!

Heh, good luck on that argument over where the den belongs….I suggest reading here: http://cynography.blogspot.com/2011/07/hormonal.html (scroll about halfway down to the first picture for the description of moving day, otherwise the first half of the post will likely leave you in tears, it did me).
Good luck arguing with Kang…..

Ruth: I read the whole thing. I didn’t cry, because I did my crying two days ago for the same reasons.
Kang did not become anxious and fretful and paranoid with her brood until she birthed and tried to revive the one who died in the womb. I very much thinks she remembers and feels the loss.

I can believe that.
Btw thanks for the info on the color. We looked at Akitas when we were trying to decide on a dog, but paid more attention to temperment then color. (then we found Tibetan Mastiffs and were hooked, Akitas still hold an interest though)

Cute puppehs! Good luck with the sleep thing, if small pups are akin to small humans, you’ll need it!

Congratulations LabRat, Stingray and Kang! They’re beautiful!

HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THOSE! Oh god I need to start shuffling funds around so I can come coo. Aaagh. Puppies! Why didn’t you tell me! (Probably because it was untold hell to go through).
