House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will join Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in opposing any effort to revive the 1994 assault weapons ban, putting them on the opposite side of the Obama administration.

I just… they … and then…
Is 20ga enough for flying pigs? ‘Cause I just saw one wing past out front, and I gotta try some of that airborn bacon.

It’s a trap.

This is hilarious because you KNOW they both want an AWB. But their power is even more important than any liberal ideals they may have.
Power politics at it’s best.

I wonder how much of this stems from their fear of a 1994-ish backlash, and how much of it is just pique that the executive didn’t consult with their important selves before floating the idea. I can’t find the link, but Pelosi’s been sparring with various White House folks over the pack order in D.C. for some time now.
Either way, I’m not going to waste perfectly good schadenfreude wondering which is which.

I heard an interesting theory that they were just using this as a first “float” to test the waters. Pelosi comes out seeming all kindsa reasonable and they get everybody to put their hackles back down while they gauge the opposition and figure out what kinda spin the need to put on this thing when they finally decide to ram it through.

(having now posted this in the CORRECT comments…)
I take it from the immortal words of Ash in the great testament of the Army of Darkness:
“Wait…it’s a trick…get an axe.

I suspect that porcus avionius would be too lean for good bacon, but there’s only one way to find out.

20-ga is probably no practical use on a full grown pig at any range at all. I’d move over to something more Tremors- or CHUD-scale.

You’ll be needing at least an 8 gauge. It’s nice to see their survival instincts kick in.

The Chosen One is an amateur with very little, if any, real experience at being tested at the polls for thinking on a grand scale, and he is riding high on the wave of his recent raid on the treasury. Perhaps he thinks his farts smell good.
Pelosi is a bit more battle-scarred and undoubtedly remembers the backlash her party suffered in 1994. Reid voted against the AWB when it first passed and then voted against retaining it when it expired. Point is, they know better. Post-Heller, they remember a bit of history.
In that context, Obama’s Chief of Staff favoring the AWB while Pelosi and Reid oppose it isn’t surprising. Perhaps the longer term effects will be that the Dumbocrats will make use of their 15 minutes in the sun to continue to raid the treasury while letting sleeping gun dogs lie. The question becomes, will Congress rein Obama in on this issue? Do they have the balls to oppose the Anointed One?

Barack has blown through his political capital faster than a Lottery winner in a Lambo dealership.
Word is that Holder has very few people happy with him for opening his cakehole about AWB fripperies at this particular juncture. Barry O. has about twenty bucks left out of his Powerball check, and he wasn’t about to spend it by urging every blue dog Democrat in Congress to fall on their sword in order to eliminate the scourge of bayonet lugs.
They’ll get to it, my pretties, don’t you fear, but now ain’t the time.
On the upside? Holder just sold another hundred thousand AR-15 lowers.
