Atomic Nerds

Apologies for the dearth of content lately. For awhile I was legitimately too busy to post regularly, but in that time period I seem to have fallen out of the habit, and more to the point ability, to write regularly. I spend a lot of time lately staring at an article or post or comment willing myself to have something to say about it, and failing spectacularly.

Well, the way I got into that skill the first time was by posting whether I damn well had anything to say really or not, and I suppose that will be how I get it back. So for today what you get is something I found on a random image site that kicked over my gigglebox for a good minute and a half. Hopefully it will do the same to you. If not hopefully there’ll be some other bit of contentless fluff tomorrow that may.

Sorry for the radio silence. We are running on a pretty big sleep deficit, thanks to lately everything in the world happening in the morning but needing most of the evening to wind down before sleep is possible. Kang is also in heat, and while this will only happen once before one of them is neutered, this means we are dealing with Overhormoned Intact Adolescent Male as well as Cranky Bitch Who Hates Being Female, and their acting out is damaging our zen, to put it very mildly. The roller derby world is also going through some final frantic do all the things and wrap up all the standings stuff before the offseason begins, so we basically have no weekends right now*. This is an issue because prior to this weekends were the time we got just about everything done.

The good news is things get a LOT quieter starting next month.

*For the lone reader who knows what I’m talking about, yesterday I got to be the wrangler, inside whiteboard, and scorekeeper all at the same time. *ref rolls up* “Ten!” *polite nod* *long mutual stare* “…And ten did, what exactly?” “No, points!” “oh” I’ve been self-medicating.

Yesterday was normal derby practice. But Wait! There’s a boot camp this weekend. So today was bonus work. Have I mentioned I never had wheels on my feet for anything more than 15 minutes before in my life until I started skating in like June? Today was supposed to be boot camp runner running a light evaluation.

Which turned out to mean an hour or so at Stingray’s Sprint Speed and lots of getting up from fall work, followed by a sucker punch as a wheel check sent me flying to land straight on my solar plexus.

And she really really wants the refs at tomorrow’s 9 am (which I didn’t know they *had* a nine in the morning on Saturdays) to 2 pm training fest. Because it’s good to have big guys in the mix for hitting drills and blocking drills for… uh… reasons.

Look, I know I’m pretty low on the totem pole for skating skills, but when the lion is waving to everybody else “Hey! That zeeb is the slow weak one! Let’s fuck it up!” I’m not entirely on board with the plan.

I have concluded the most interesting things to happen to me/do in the last two days fall under the heading of, variously, only remotely interesting if you are me or one of the people I interact with weekly, entirely too delicate to blog about without landing on either rude or overweeningly sensitive, or only interesting if you follow the exact same stuff I do, which doesn’t even apply to Stingray. Perhaps content will appear if something bloggably interesting happens in the next four hours or I saddle up a new hobbyhorse for crusadin’ times.

So, a question: has the “view conversation” function basically been nonfunctional on Twitter for the last few weeks for anyone else? Is it a “don’t have a Twitter account” thing they decided to implement for Reasons? I don’t do Twitter, but I watch the Twitters of a lot of people who are a lot funnier in 140 characters than I am, and watching people talk nonsense to the winds and walls has been a less fun experience than the original one.

Sorry for the frequent radio silences lately. As you can probably guess, we are busy, and we’re getting ready to head out of town and frantically running around to meet all obligations prior to doing so.

This will ease up after next weekend, but not completely, because as my life did not contain a bunch of other stuff I’ll also be drastically upping my time devoted to Moving About, so unless you particularly want to hear a whole bunch about powerlifting, roller skating, and conditioning, I’ll have less time to gin up content.

After spending all weekend skating, going through offskates “extra happy fun bonus time” workout, going through various contortionist routines in order to unfuck my hips (nothing will reveal the inadequacy of your hips like skates), and having ridiculous allergy attacks (nothing will make your hayfever ridiculous like really deep breathing in a picturesque outdoor skating rink), I am completely out of energy. Even attempting to review Avengers sounds like way too much work. Killing internet dragons borders on way too much work.

Back after I’ve slept another eighteen hours or so.

I have a subject for a post. I had all my ducks in a row.

Then a purely metaphorical meteor came through and I went through some kind of time space distortion where something that should have taken fifteen minutes took an hour and a half, and now it’s dinnertime and well. I had other things that needed doing today as well. Sorry. Jam tomorrow.

Crisis mode at work because we always have to have one of those at the end of the week, preparing for guests, running around in little circles babbling to ourselves. So yeah.

So, we finally spent enough time making noise about wanting to get more serious about the whole getting fitter thing and wanting some sort of coaching and accountability aside from whatever we could pull out of our own asses, so we went down to one of the Crossfit boxes in Santa Fe to see about that. Because they like know when to stop before an important internal organ shoots out your nose, their policy is to give you an individual session first before they attempt to pitch you into anything else and establish a bottom baseline.
