Vehicular Neatery

Via perennial MArooned contributer Sci-Fi, we find this awesome account of rebuilding a triumph spitfire engine in stop motion.

It’s only a couple minutes long, and if you’re any sort of a gearhead, and this fails to peg your neat-o-rama meter, you might want to check and make sure you’re firing on all cylinders. I’m strangely tempted to do this with the Impala that finally moved from… uh… let’s be charitable and call it “storage” to my own garage, but I’ve already finished the engine and I know I’d be too busy swearing at any other parts to do justice to the process.

    1. That is damn cool.

    2. I hate it when I have parts left over.

    3. I’d think Grieg would work even better for a rebuild of a Saab two-stroke, or maybe some insane Scandinavian rally car build.

Yep, that is a good one, and you could always do the disk brake upgra…er… nevermind… The language would be at least XX if not XXX rating… :-)

    Very cool.

Hell I’m not a gear head and I thought it was awesome.

I’ve done similar to a ’99 Escort. Not quite as fun, but with extra bits of wire, hoses, and “where the heck does this thing go?”

    Neat-o-rama meter pegged. Very cool.

Yeah, I liked that video. I thought it was a bit wierd that he didn’t paint the block until he had the engine reassembled, though.

    What year Impala?

I briefly dated a girl in college, then again years later, who had a Spitfire when in college. Mind you, I’m NOT a little guy, and my first thought saw it prior to riding in it the first time was “No (expletive deleted) way I’m fitting in there.” Surprisingly, I did, but I suspect my feet were just inboard of the front tire.

I had the same thought, Perl. And 67 ss.

Dude. Why didn’t I think to do this when I rebuilt the Tactical Assault Compact Sedan? Definitely weird on the paint.

I think that painting an engine has become the standard “Kilroy was here” among gearheads.

    Nifty stuff.

Not much of a gearhead, but I still like the video.

Amazing project. Cool way to turn the project into a video.

Oh Damn, I was thinking Spitfire = Merlin ! It’s those linked dual side-draft water-choked Stromberg carbs that are… interesting.
