When your standard anxiety dream of beating up on an enemy only to have no visible effect on them changes to beating them so severely that you actually feel bad about it, does that represent an uptick or a downtick in your self-image?

    It all depends.

    If it’s an enemy who really deserves it (e.g. Hillary, Pelosi, etc.) then you should certainly feel good about it.

    If it’s a minor enemy who deserves better (e.g. Osama) then simply kill him quickly and cleanly without suffering.

    (Tongue firmly in cheek, of course!)
